(ContentDesk) November 5, 2005 -- Weeks have passed since the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, but displaced residents of the Gulf Region are still trying to recover a level of normalcy in their lives.
Many evacuees of Louisiana, Mississippi, and other Gulf states have made their way into South DeKalb County and other parts of Georgia, and they will likely be there for a long time.
While the public response to this tragedy has been amazing, there is always more that can be done.
Bountiful Blessings Christian Ministries and Vision Ministries International have joined forces to assist with the long-term needs of the evacuees.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2005, a dinner will be held for displaced Gulf residents at Bountiful Blessings Christian Ministries, located at 2364 Park Central Boulevard, Decatur, Georgia 30035.
In addition to a traditional holiday meal, numerous additional services will be offered such as health screenings, haircuts, and manicures.
There will also be entertainment, televisions for viewing the holiday sporting events, and complimentary family portraits provided by a professional photographer.The event organizers are actively seeking volunteers to assist with this event. Anyone that is willing to donate their time in order to provide complimentary haircuts and manicures, assist with food preparation, or provide any other general assistance would be greatly appreciated.
There is also a need for food items, paper products, disposable utensils, toiletries, and numerous other supplies.
